Today's effort...
Worked conscientiously today... all but finishing touches on these roses.. tick! and then the start of some Albany paintings. I worked with really large brushes on this painting to get the looseness in the roses that I was after. I edited this painting a bit from when I put down the umber layer, it was sitting top heavy on the canvas with the large bud. One of the pleasures of oils is how you can edit your layers as you go.... I have a few sections to touch up so that th

Weather...
Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year. I admit to liking the winter cold much much better than the heat - bring on coats, scarves, boots and snuggling by a fire. And for some reason I picked up a blank canvas and started from scratch on a completely unplanned painting - another ro

Still life arranging - a satisfying enterprise...
I spent a fun day on Sunday setting up, arranging and photographing an array of still life subjects. I have been really getting myself organised with backdrops, reflective bases and so on to get some great effects with the natural light from believe it or not, my front door! Oh the joys of living with an artist, my daughters say... They came home to a table virtually blocking the front door, black velvet and so on draped artistically and a range of vases, bowls and flowers
